Cardiff Groundshare Deal Imminent

Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale believes that a deal is close bringing Cardiff Blues Rugby Club to groundshare in Cardiff City's new stadium when built.

The deal resembles that of the Liberty Stadium in Swansea in that the football sides will share with Cardiff Blues and Neath-Swansea Ospreys respectively. However, the schemes differ in that Cardiff City will own the stadium outright, with the rugby region effectively hiring the pitch on a seasonal basis.

The plans have met with opposition but could be beneficial to both clubs, and schemes such as joint season tickets have worked well to boost attendances at the Liberty Stadium.

Peter Risdale expects an announcement soon and revealed he would be stunned if it didnt happen:

'I would expect an agreement to be announced within weeks rather than months that we will be sharing a stadium.'

'It`s only right to share a ground. We should use it as often as possible for the benefit of the city.'
