Cardiff Squad Review: McNaughton

After an up-and-down season, Cardiff City finished comforably mid-table. A scintillating start was followed by a dismal end and the same players looked half as effective as previously.

VitalCardiff brings you an end of season review of each player. If you disagree then feel free to leave a comment at the foot of this article or e-mail Vital Bluebirds with an alternative review!!

The reviews will be published every weekday between 10-11am:

3 - KEVIN McNAUGHTON

A simply fantastic first season from the Scotsman and surely one of the best deals Cardiff City have made in decades. A free transfer from Aberdeen and McNaughton started the season at left-back putting in some dominant performances. Whilst switching to the right and covering in the centre on a number of occasions he never looked less than tidy and was extremely consistent over the entire season.

McNaughton won a re-call to the Scotland squad but was cruelly sidelined after suffering a nasty head injury when he fell awkwardly against Barnsley. He was back in action soon enough and made up a solid and dependable back four.

McNaughton does not have the physique normal in a defender, but his positioning, pace and skills are excellent. He reads the game so well and gets up and down the flank with ease.

Its so easy to forget that Kevin is only 23, and still learning his game. This was his first season in the hustle-and-bustle of the Championship and he has impressed quietly behind the scenes but imposed himself as a key member of the team.

As well as his versatility, McNaughton looks a damn good player and should be a fixture in the side again next season.

Looks better at left-back and he wont be playin there this season - big test coming up for him
Bonesy
He did struggle with some aspects and isnt as dominant as he should be, shown lots of potential but i think he could do with bulking up over the summer
