Cardiff Squad Review - K Gilbert

After an up-and-down season, Cardiff City finished comforably mid-table. A scintillating start was followed by a dismal end and the same players looked half as effective as previously.

VitalCardiff brings you an end of season review of each player. If you disagree then feel free to leave a comment at the foot of this article or e-mail Vital Bluebirds with an alternative review!!

The reviews will be published every weekday between 10-11am:

2 - KERREA GILBERT

The teenager arrived on a season`s long loan from Arsenal after earning great praise from manager Arsene Wenger. Great things were expected of the pacy and tenascious right-back and he went straight into the side. His determination and fitness were impressive and Gilbert looked a fine prospect. Positional awareness was slightly lacking but he got forward to support the winger so easily which typified Cardiff`s early season form. He was never going to be dominant in the air, but groundwork was effective and he didn`t look a weak link in an overperforming side.

A needless sending off against Norwich saw the full-back banned for 3 matches and shortly afterwards came the arrival of homegrown teenage prospect Chris Gunter to take over a right-back.

Gilbert was absent from first team duties between February and April due to an undisclosed 'problem` as Dave Jones put it. He did however return at the close of the season and again looked lively and solid.

Gilbert returns to Arsenal having impressed but despite angling for a permanent switch, did not convince Dave Jones sufficiently. Gilbert has potential but surely wont feature regularly for the Gunners so another loan deal or permanent transfer could well be on the cards.

A decent first full season, and there is more to come from the youngster

Some talk of him coming back on loan again next season but cant see dave jones going for that
Bonesy
He'll be on his way from Arsenal, nowhere near that standard and I doubt there'll be many takers at Championship level either. Some potential, but not enough
