Killen Unrepentant For Cardiff Snub

Chris Killen yesterday completed a dramatic u-turn and joined Glasgow SPL giants Celtic just hours after speaking of his excitement of an impending move to Cardiff City.

Whilst Cardiff City were expecting Killen for a medical, the New Zealand striker was at Parkhead finalising a move to Celtic and leaving Dave Jones and Peter Ridsdale frustrated.

Nevertheless, Killen was unrepentant and stressed that he acted professionally and within his rights in speaking to and ultimately signing for the Buoys:

'Everyone knows that I was in talks with Cardiff and we were getting close to a deal.'

'But Celtic is not a club you can turn down. I didn't have to think twice.'

'At the end of the day, I have to look after number one. I could have gone down there and they could have pulled the plug at the last minute. You just have to take opportunities when they come along, whether people think it's right or wrong. It's my decision at the end of the day.'

'With all the speculation that surrounded things, it sounded as though I was a Cardiff player. I was close to joining them, but I won't say how close. There was a deal pretty much ready to be done but, as I said, I couldn't turn this opportunity down.'

The loss of Killen is a big blow for Cardiff, he was seen as the ideal man to partner Chopra and was available for no money. The Bluebirds thought they had got their man and may now have to re-structure their summer spending to accomodate a move for a proven striker after struggling for goals last season.
