Cardiff 'Left' Selection Headache

Cardiff City look to have a hugely imbalanced squad at present, an area which Dave Jones must rectify to avoid the mistakes of last season.

The recent capture of Tony Capaldi from Plymouth gives Cardiff added options on the left. The versatile player can operate at full-back or wide midfield giving a great deal of strength on the left flank.

The left back position can be filled by McNaughton, Capaldi or Ledley while left midfield is covered by the Capaldi, Ledley, Whittingham and Parry.

This means that competition will be fierce for those left sided spots. However, the right side has nowhere near as much quality:

McNaughton will start at right-back, but is slightly less confident on that side. Chris Gunter is an able deputy but in midfield Cardiff City are lacking options.

Paul Parry did well on the right last season, but was soon found out and his cutting-in became predictable and easy to stop. He is naturally left-footed and was not able to hurt defences too much despite an excellent start to the season.

Kevin Cooper, Luigi Glombard and Malvin Kamara, all able to cover the right wing position, have been released by Dave Jones and the other good option Willo Flood has now joined Dundee United on a season long loan.

A right winger must be a priority for The Bluebirds, such a lop-sided squad is not helpful and we are lacking a right sided midfielder, only Parry has any experience (1 season) in that position. Barnsley's Martin Devaney has been linked with a move but CCFC are said to be concentrating on the signing of a goalkeeper first.
