'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ex Bluebird Campbell For Coach !

Cardiff City boss Dave Jones has recently wielded his considerably-sized axe to reduce the size of Cardiff's squad. Most of the fringe players have been released or transfer-listed ahead of a summer squad revamp.

One player who was released in that group was former Arsenal and West Bromwich Albion striker Kevin Campbell. The burly forward made several appearances for Cardiff this season, mostly as a substitute replacement for Steven Thompson but was largely appalling.

Campbell showed no pace, little flair and looked completely lost at this level. Many questioned Dave Jones' rationale at bringing the aged journeyman in.

However, several players including Malvin Kamara and Steven Thompson revealed their gratitude to Campbell for his atttitude and wealth of experience. Indeed, it was said that despite rarely featuring for the first team, Campbell had become an important member of the dressing room and was always willing to pass on his advice to the younger players.

Campbell believes he has another season in him, but that seems unlikely - certainly not at Championship level. Cardiff are lacking in experience in the squad, one thing Campbell added in abundance so would he fit in well as a coach.

He has the fitness (!), attitude, experience and respect to be a valuable member of the backroom team. He would have to become qualified but could do that whilst registered with the club anyway.

Of course, you cannot just create a position within the club but it seems Cambell could be a useful asset to Cardiff City, it doesn't look likely now with Campbell's release but if he weren;t to find a new club, maybe he could return in a more suitable role.

Just a thought.

We cant afford to pay someone to be part of the squad if they're not going to play !!! And he's not going to play, as he's well past it - in fact he's so far past it - he cant even see it !!
