Cardiff Reserves Pull-Out of League
Cardiff City Reserves have quit the Pontin's Combination league that they played in last season over fears of a lack of quality in the other teams making up the league.
Players such as Andrea Feretti, jamal Easter and Curtis McDonald have impressed for Cardiff Reserves in recent times, but failed to make the grade at first team level and Dave Jones was unwilling to risk the youngsters because of the lack of quality they were used to. All three players were recently released by Cardiff City.
Instead of the reserve league, which was prone to late cancellations and re-arrangements, Cardiff will set up a number of 'friendly' type matches against young players from Premier League clubs. It is thought these matches will be more competitive and allow the youngsters and fringe players to play against a higher standard opposition.
Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale confirmed the decision:
'We feel the reserve team league was not of benefit to us.'
'We believe we will do better by arranging our own matches.'
