Cardiff City's exiled defender Chris Barker has admitted he is unsure of his future but remains a Cardiff City player as things stand.
The full-back has been on loan at Colchester United for much of the season and his consistent form has helped them above Cardiff City and the U's finished in 10th place.
During the early stages of his loan, Barker returned one day per week to train with the Bluebirds but extended his loan period in January to stay with Colchester United.
Now he will return to Cardiff City, but his Ninian Park future seems to be as good as over. Dave Jones has Kevin McNaughton and Joe Ledley to fill the left-back position next year and is also scouring the transfer market for an additional full-back leaving Barker well down the pecking order should he stay.
Barker is a solid and consistent defender, but Dave Jones would like to see more attacking prowess in his fullbacks so Barker left on loan. He will most likely move permanently this summer and there are likely to be plenty of interested parties following his good season.
Barker prefers a move to Essex to join the U's again, and Geraint Williams is obviously a fan of the player, playing him whenever available.
'As it stands, I'll be returning to Cardiff. I believe they report back for pre-season training on June 28.'
'But I'll be waiting by the phone, hoping to hear from Colchester. The lads have had a fantastic season, and I'm delighted to have played my part.'
