'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ipswich 3-1 Cardiff (match report)

Cardiff City bowed out of the Championship season with a small whimper as they succumbed to yet another defeat.

In all fairness, it was a pretty good game: lively, fast-paced and both teams did look interested at least. It didnt take long for Ipswich to carve through the Cardiff defense however, and Owen Garvan's through-ball was neatly finished by Franny Jeffers.

It looked like the same old story for Cardiff but the Bluebirds responded well and put some pressure on themselves. After an end-to-end period, Warren Feeney's whipped cross was met by PAUL PARRY bravely heading at the far post. Parry is a threat in the air, but rarely finishes off his chances. It was a well taken goal from a player who must be disappointed at losing his international squad place.

The game was fairly even, but it was the Tractor Boys who wrested the initiative after substitute Jon Walters sidefooted home just moments after coming on. Deflated City were given a further blow when Walters smashed home another to wrap up the points.

Relief that the season is now over, and Cardiff's woeful form can be consigned to a distant memory. Several of the players may not appear for Cardiff again with Thompson and Parry under severe pressure.
