Former Cardiff City striker Alan Lee, now playing for Ipswich Town is hoping for a start on the final day of the season as he faces his old club.
Lee was signed by Lennie Lawrence for £800k (from Rotherham), but he failed to impress at Ninian Park. He effort and work-rate was faultless but too often he was forced to run channels and found himself away from goal. Lee was criticised for not scoring enough, but for much of his time, Lee was hampered by injury and played many games with a painful hernia injury.
Since leaving for Ipswich Town last year, Lee has flourished and has hit 17 goals in a great season for the Irishman. He has settled well and puts himself about to good effect for the Tractor Boys and is a far more dangerous prospect than when he was a Bluebird.
Incidentally, the problems suffered by Lee at Cardiff are similar to those of his replacement, Steve Thompson, who has also found it difficult to score regularly but, like Lee, is still a good team player and adept at holding the ball up.
Lee has been dropped at the latter end of the season, to accomodate the 'fox-in-the-box' Francis Jeffers. He would love a start against the Bluebirds and Lee is hoping to earn a new contract at Portman Road:
'It is no secret that I love it at Ipswich. I have no intention of moving and please God I will stay.'
'Sometimes things do get out of your own control, but I want to play in the Premiership with Ipswich.'
