Cardiff City Striker Disappoints

Cardiff City went down by a single goal, scored by veteran striker Dean Windass who reacted first to slam home a David Forde parry.

Cardiff manager Dave Jones again pointed to a failure to convert chances and score, Steve Thompson has just 6 goals all season and Warren Feeney is still awaiting his first Bluebirds goal (he only scored 2 league goals for Luton this season).

The matchwinner on the Tiger's side, was the 38 year old Dean Windass, on loan from Bradford and has scored the goals that will see Hull City survive in the Championship. Aside from the goal, he was a constant presence up front, he won flick-on's, held the ball up superbly and brought midfield players into the game.

All this begs the question, where is Kevin Campbell? At 37 he is younger than Windass but gives virtually nothing to the Cardiff side, his mobility was poor and in terms of contribution - he was non-existent.
The job done by Windass is surely the reason Dave Jones signed up Campbell for Cardiff.

Several players have praised Campbell for his off-the-field presence but it isnt enough. Windass proved just what Cardiff are lacking, and he replaced pace and agility with experience and guile to shame Cardiff City and underline the need for quality.

A plethora of strikers have been on the Cardiff City books this season, Chopra has been instrumental but our play relies to much on him and we have no other ideas.

Despite the recent acquisitions of Feeney and Matt Green, fans will want to see at least one PROVEN striker heading in the door. A known 12 goal a season guy, hard to find maybe but if we're serious about being promotion candidates - should we be taking risks and signing virtual unknowns for money that could be better invested elsewhere?
