Bluebirds Hope For Cash Boost

Cardiff City are hoping that their rivals Birmingham City can maintain their position at the top of the Championship until the end of the season.

Should the Blues achieve promotion this season, Cardiff City will pick up a welcome bonus of £500k as part of the agreement that took England U21 international Cameron Jerome to St Andrews during the summer.

Birmingham paid Cardiff a sizable lump sum, around £3.5m with a further £500k payable on promotion. The player has not excelled since the move but has 6 league goals to his name including the winner which saw The Blues regain top spot last week.

The money would be extremely useful to Cardiff ahead of a major squad overhaul planned for the summer. Players such as Glenn Loovens, Peter Whittingham, Roger Johnson and Michael Chopra have all arrived for sums less than that figure, and Dave Jones would dearly love a transfer kitty to bolster his squad.

Peter Risdale confirmed the possibility of the money:

'It would be a nice bonus for the club and most welcome.'

Birmingham are two points ahead of third placed Derby County with two games to play.
