Cardiff's Thompson 'Under-Fire'

Cardiff City's burly Scottish striker Steve Thompson is again under pressure from Dave Jones over his lack of goalscoring prowess.

Thompson's first full season at Championship level has yielded just 6 goals despite starting in virtually all of the games. Replaced by Kevin Campbell to no avail earlier in the season, Thommo was again dropped to accomodate Warren Feeney in recent weeks but he was recalled to face Stoke because of their physical presence.

Despite putting in a decent performance and having two shots well blocked, Thommo is coming increasingly under-fire to produce the goods. He has been lauded for his selfless play and tireless work ethic but Jones and the fans want to see a weightier contribution in terms of goals scored by the striker.

'Steve has to do better. He has to score goals.' Said Jones.

'Six goals for the season is not a good return for a centre-forward.'


Jones is set to oversee a major squad overhaul in the summer and Thompson could be one of those under pressure. Goals are the only main thing missing from his game and 1 couple before the end of the season would be a welcome boost for the big frontman.
