'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Cardiff v Sheff Wed-in-depth preview

Cardiff City host Sheffield Wednesday at Ninian Park on Saturday, in the first of 6 must-win games.

Sheff Wed are currently 11th in the Coca-Cola Football League Championship six points behind Cardiff. The last match between the two sides, earlier this season, ended in a 0-0 draw. But City beat the Owls home and away the season before.

Sheff Wed have won three and drawn two of their last five games and are currently one of the better sides in the division on the road. As a result the Owls boss Brian Laws was recently short-listed for manager of the month only to lose out to Roy Keane.

The player to watch for Sheff Wed has to be Chris Brunt who has scored 10 goals this season. He has 10 caps for Northern Ireland and impressed during a 0-0 bore draw against Wales earlier this year.

The 22-year-old is an attack-minded left winger and a free-kick specialist. But don`t let his age fool you he is amongst the most experienced players in the Sheff Wed squad with over a hundred appearances.

Brunt, known as 'Brunty` to Owls fans, has attracted the interest of several premiership clubs and Sheff Wed will do well to hold onto him in the summer.

Another to watch is left-back Peter Gilbert who has played for Wales at U21 level.

Mid-table obscurity means that the Owls have little to play for whilst the Bluebirds are chasing Premiership football. So I`ll go for City to win 1 nil.
