'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Cardiff vs Sheff Wed: Fans View

VitalCardiff talks to Sheffield Wednesday fan Nick about the Owls' season to date and their chances on Saturday:

Are the play-offs out of reach now?

I'd say so, but it's good that Brian Laws and the players are still going for it while they're mathmatically possible. Gives the fans something to look forward to instead of just mid-table obscurity! Remember Palace a few years back? Well there's always hope!

Are you happy with the season's progress ?

Got to be. Went through a very sticky patch when the majority of the fans were up in arms over the sacking of Paul Sturrock. He's seen as a messiah at SWFC and rightly so - worked miracles to get us back up in this league in such a short time and helped us stay up at the first attempt too. But looking back now, it seems to have been a good move and had we not gone on a disastrous run at the start of the year we would be in the play-off spots. We're playing the best football I've see from a Wednesday team in a long time and we should get a mid-table spot which is progression from last season - so we have to be happy.

Unbeaten in 7, is this your best form of the season?

It's definately up there. To be honest the best form of the season was when Sean McAuley took caretaker manager position up until the end of the year. The football was superb and we were mostly getting the results to go with the performances and were just four points off the top six. Losing Madjid Bougherra to Charlton was a big loss and it's taken a while to bounce back, but we have done and we're playing well again.

Welsh U21 player Peter Gilbert is back - have you missed him and how good a prospect is he ?

To be perfectly honest, I never knew he was a Welsh U21 player (or former?) - he may have been while at Leicester or Plymouth though. He's a decent player and our good run has come at the same time he came back from a horrendous injury which kept him out for a year. I still think we could do with someone a bit stronger in that position but you can't fault him for his performances this season.

Sheff Wed player to watch out for?

Obvious one is Chris Brunt. Being watched by a load of Premiership clubs and is rumoured to be on his way out in the summer but hopefully not. He's one of our top scorers from the left-wing and most of them are real peaches so I wouldn't give him too much space with the ball! Big part in Northern Ireland's recent success story too.

Prediction for the game?

I can never remember winning at Ninian Park but we're in good form so I'll go for a 1-1 draw. We've only managed one clean sheet this year so there should be goals in it. Good luck for the rest of the season!
