Cardiff aided by Preston defeat

Cardiff City will have been heartened slightly by QPR's Championship result last night.

Preston, are well above Cardiff in the table and will be devastated should they fail to make the play-offs. Like Cardiff however they have been plagued by inconsistency in recent weeks. The Bluebirds themselves hammered Preston 4-1, the Lilywhites responded by beating Southampton and Burnley but have also lost to Hull, and now back-to-back defeats to Leeds Utd and QPR have seen them lose their game in hand.

Dexter Blackstock scored with a sublime volley to down Preston and they now sit in 4th place with 68 points. Thats only 5 ahead of Cardiff, catchable in the remaining 6 games with a bit of luck.

It now seems like being a straight battle between Preston, West Brom, Wolves, Southampton and Cardiff for three remaining play-off spots. Stoke could force themselves into contention, but need those above them to struggle.
