Cardiff's Alexander singled out

Cardiff City goalkeeper Neil Alexander was singled out by his manager Dave Jones after a free-kick sneaked in his near post and won 3 points for Sunderland.

'Neil Alexander is a shot-stopper and it was a shot he should have stopped. Simple as that.'

'A mistake has cost us but we made mistakes all over, from the goal we conceded to missed chances in front of goal at the other end.'

'We have paid the price for not scoring when we were on top.'

Jones was obviously bitterly dissappointed with the team performance. Never one to mince his words, it is still unusual to see one player singled out in this way.

Alexander is the club's longest serving player, but contract negotiations have stalled and the player is free to leave in the summer with Hearts, Norwich and Coventry all linked in the past.

Jones prefers a dominant goalkeeper and former Derry stopper David Forde could replace Alexander before the end of the season while Jones is also keeping a close eye on American Chris Konopka and Ged Doherty.
