Cardiff Complete Feeney Swoop
Cardiff City have finally completed the loan signing of Northern Ireland International Warren Feeney. Dave Jones identified the player as a top target days ago, but protracted negotiations between the clubs were finally resolved late last night.
The cash-strapped Luton Town board rejected four initial bids from the Bluebirds, the stumbling block being that Cardiff insisted on paying a large chunk of the money only if the club gains promotion to the Premiership. Luton wanted all the cash up-front but were forced to cash in on the player before he leaves for nothing in the summer.
The Bluebirds will pay Luton £75,000 immediately for Feeney with an additional payment of £50,000 if City gain promotion to the Premiership this season.
Feeney had been desperate to leave the managerless, relegation-threatened club after stalling on a new contract last month. He is delighted to link up again with Peter Ridsdale, who was in charge when Feeney signed his first contract at Leeds United.
The player was a prolific goalscorer at Stockport and Bournemouth but never impressed at Luton and has hit just 2 goals all season despite being in and around the first team all season.
Cardiff City fans will be hoping the arrival of Feeney, who will sign permanently for Cardiff in the summer, can inject some much needed goals into the side in Chopra`s absence.
After signing the contract in Cardiff, the player was immediately on his way to join up with the N. Ireland squad for Euro qualifiers against Leichtenstein and Sweden.
