Manchester United winger and Wales captain Ryan Giggs has revealed his belief that his hometown club have what it takes to reach the Premiership via the play-offs this season.
Speaking to the South Wales Echo, Giggs said:
'I'd love them to be in the Premiership,'
'They had a great start to the season, then they hit a sticky patch before the turn of the year but they have always been there or thereabouts.
'I look at all of Cardiff City's results, because they are my home town team.
Giggs has been impressive in the Premiership and has been vital in the excellent season for the Red Devils so far. His energetic and direct performances have caused problems for opponents and he looks as effective as at any time in his career.
'Cardiff have come back in good form recently and have rarely been out of the top six all season, so I'm honestly excited about them doing well.'
'They have put themselves in a great position to gain promotion through the play-offs this term and it would be terrific if they managed to go up having been in the frame for most of the season.'
'I do wish them the best of luck, that's what you need towards the end of the campaign and hopefully they will get a spot in the play-offs and be promoted to the Premiership.'
The backing of a high-profile player such as Giggs lends further credibility to Cardiff's promotion push. Cardiff fans however will be hoping to avoid the 'kiss-of-death' that media praise can lend to a team.
