'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ridsdale blasts 'nonsense idea'

Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale has spoken out over proposed plans by the Football League to scrap draws, instead determining the winner of every game by penalty shoot-out if necessary.

Other potential additions to the controversial plans could be to include an 8 second timespace for which a player to score, unopposed (save for the goalkeeper) from the half-way line.

The plans are due to be discussed at a meeting next week, but Cardiff Chairman Ridsdale is one of several to have publicly opposed the plans:

'It's a nonsense idea and won't make the game more exciting.'

'I just hope everybody expresses the same view as us at the meeting and that's we are totally against it.'

Ridsdale then questioned as to whether the game needed any changes, nevermind such radical and controversial ones:

'If you look at the top of the Championship at the moment - it's never been so exciting so why change something that's not broken?'

The plans are highly unlikely to proceed and with the negative public feeling so far, will almost cetainly be shelved. Cardiff meanwhile may not need to worry, should they achieve promotion to the Premiership where the new rules would not apply.
