Cardiff's Loovens injury update

Just as Cardiff City get the entire squad fit and ready for a tense season finale, they get another key player injured.

Darren Purse has returned and is ready for first team action following a back injury, he hasnt played since January but has played an hour in two recent reserve games and will step in for Loovens who picked up an injury last night.

Loovens limped off misway through the second half last night, forcing Kevin McNaughton to slot into centre-back and Chris Gunter at right-back. Loovens is a towering presence for Cardiff and has good distribution from the back as well as being a menace from set-pieces.

Cardiff manager Dave Jones confirmed Loovens' injury:

'Glenn's ankle was strapped up for the trip home and he'll have an x-ray today, then we'll assess how he is.'

Loovens was obviously in pain as he hobbled off and will miss the game against Derby County and probably the trip to Sunderland.

The Purse / Johnson has not been the strongest for Cardiff so far this season, but both are good players and Johnson has performed admirably of late. Their partnership will be crucial for Cardiff in the run-in.
