Southampton vs Cardiff (preview)

Cardiff City travel to the South Coast to face promotion rivals Southampton. The Saints currently lie in 8th position after stuttering somewhat of late. They are just 3 points behind Cardiff however and are well within reach of the play-off positions.

Southampton have lost 3 of their last 4 games losing their strong play-off position and George Burley is beginning to fall foul of the St Mary's faithful. Burley and his team would dearly love a win and it is their home form which has sustained them, winning 4 and drawing 1 of the previous 6 games at home.


Cardiff City scraped past Norwich on Saturday and need to keep stringing results together after losing to rivals West Brom and Birmingham in recent weeks. The Bluebirds have won 3, drawn 1 and lost 2 of their last 6 games and need to improve on their consistency to maintain their coveted play-off spot. They climbed back into the top 6 due to results going their way but have struggled against the better sides of late.


A crucial game then, and one in which a point would suit Cardiff City better.
