Bluebirds edge out Canaries

Cardiff City moved back into the Championhsip play-off positions after Paul Parry goal, his first since September, was enough to beat Norwich City.

Cardiff grabbed an early lead when slack defending by the visitors allowed Parry to hook home left footed from inside the area, albeit with a slight deflection off a defender. Peter Grant's gameplan was written off from the third minute as his side stuggled to get a foothold in the match.

Peter Whittingham was denied by a fine Tony Warner save, while Lee Croft and Chris Martin should have done better at the other end for Norwich.

The second half was a more nervous and tense affair as Norwich looked to snatch a point, Huckerby scored from an offside position and two acrobatic saves from Scottish keeper Neil Alexander preserved Cardiff's slender lead. The first came from a Lappin freekick, expertly palmed over while a goalbound Dion Dublin header was similarly dealt with by the in-form Alexander.

Cardiff closed the game out without too many scares and will be pleased with the points. Results were more favourable than of late and allowed Cardiff to regain their play-off position level in 6th place (although Preston have a game in hand).
