Cardiff to concentrate on league

Cardiff City went down 1-0 to the New Saints last night and missed out of the chance of the £100k prize money for the competition.

With closest rivals Swansea City already knocked out, the cup provided a good opportunity for the Bluebirds to win but as has been the case for several seasons, the competition was not prioritised by Cardiff City.

Several first team players were included however and Gilbert, Walton, Flood, Redan and Byrne should have created enough problems for the league side to triumph over the LoW opposition.

The club offered low ticket prices in an attempt to attract spectators, but a better ploy may have been to take the competition more seriously. No-one can complain with the result as Cardiff were outplayed by the visitors who, aside from scoring, looked more dangerous and had two very strong penatly shouts denied.

Its concentrate on the league time now for the Bluebirds with the Championship the only remaining competition. There is certainly plenty to play for with Cardiff sitting in the play-offs (just!, within reach of the top two and in a good spell of form.

The Premiership is the big prize on offer this season, and a far more lucrative pay-off than the FAW cup, the players can now turn all their attantion towards the league and hopefully secure promotion.
