Cardiff Star set for new deal

Cardiff City's in-form striker is set to be rewarded for his goalscoring heroics with a lucrative new deal with the Bluebirds.

Built into Chopra's contract with Cardiff, following his summer move from Newcastle Utd, was a clause entitling Chopra to a new, improved contract if he reached the 20-goal mark this season.

Chopra leads the Championship goalscoring charts with 21 goals having netted his 20th and 21st during last Friday's 4-1 win over Preston North End. He has now scored 9 goals in 6 games and found the scoresheet in all of those games (missing the 1-0 defeat by West Brom due to suspension).

Within minutes of reaching the important milestone, Chopra's agent was busy contacting Chairman Peter Ridsdale to set up negotiations about a new deal.

The striker recently cleared up fears that he intended to leave Cardiff City in the summer, Chopra maintained his desire to play in the Premiership as soon as possible but hoped to do that with Cardiff. A new deal would tie Chopra with The Bluebirds and ensure that any club wishing to purchase him, would need a hefty price.

Congratulations to Chops and we hope to see a few more goals before the season is out. Maybe one at the Millenium Stadium in May ??
