Carmarthen 2-3 Cardiff City (aet)

Cardiff City gained revenge over their conquerors of last year Carmarthen Town, coming out victorious after an extra time winner.

A poor game in a wet and windy Richmond Park saw the Bluebirds lucky to escape but the determination and endevour from both sides was particulaly impressive.

Carmarthen took a 2-0 lead after poor defending allowed Fowler to stroke home and former Cardiff youngster Danny Thomas beat the offside trap to finish past Forde in the City goal. It didnt look like being Cardiff's night, and fears of last years knock-out to the same opposition were inevitably raised.

Cardiff new-boy Iwan Redan had a shot well saved and Kevin Cooper hit the post but David Forde had to be alert to keep the home side from extending their lead.

Cardiff had cause for celebration and optimism when aging war-horse kevin Campbell was on hand to bundle in his first competitive goal for Cardiff following a corner. The Bluebirds pushed on with Willo Flood instrumental, and in the final moments Kevin Cooper produced a moment of rare quality to cleverly chip over the keeper from out wide.

The game moved into extra time and Cardiff had more legs than their opponents, Chris Gunter looked the fittest player on the pitch while Darcy Blake also looked fresh and continued trying to pass the ball around.

The winning goal came in the first period of extra time from substitute Curtis McDonald, the winger neatly rounding the keeper to put City ahead.

Cardiff City now progress to the semi-final.
