Whittingham's Cardiff Wondergoal

Whittingham's Cardiff Wondergoal

Cardiff City new-boy Peter Whittingham has made an impressive start to his Bluebirds career, and produced a moment of rare quality in the weekend draw with Coventry City to put the Bluebirds 2-1 up.

A break from right-winger Paul Parry saw him run into a bunch of Coventry players in the box, but the ball broke to left-winger Whittingham 25-yards out and the youngster turned and curled a stunning goal past Andy Marshall and into the top corner of the net. The goal was Whittingham's second in as many matches but this one is sure to be far more memorable for the player.

Whittingham was a £300k January signing for Dave Jones' Cardiff City and he appears to have settled down well, he adds a fresh impetus down the left for Cardiff and he has demonstarated some good footwork and neat turns whilst always helping out his full-back.

He got his first Cardiff goal during the 2-0 win over Barnsley at Ninian Park when he stooped to head home from a half-blocked Chopra shot, and then scored a truly memorable goal away from home in the next game.

Coventry City caretaker boss Adrian Heath was impressed by Whittingham's goal and singled him out for praise:

'We went 2-1 down after what was a terrific goal from Whittingham.'

'It was a great finish. You've got to take your hat off to him.'
