Cardiff Poised for Promotion Push

Cardiff City enjoyed a productive but hectic January transfer window with plenty comings and goings, but the squad has certainly been improved and there appears more strength in depth than previously as the Bluebirds bid for a play-off place come May 2007.

David Forde - Goalkeeper
James Simmonds - Attacking Midfielder (loan)
Simon Walton - Defensive Midfielder (loan)
Jason Byrne - Striker
Matt Green - Striker
Iwan Redan - Striker (loan)
Peter Whittingham - Winger


Malvin Kamara has been released to Port Vale.
Luigi Glombard joined Leicester on initial 1 month loan.
Mark Howard joins Swansea City on loan.
Jamal Easter, Nick McKoy join Torquay on loan.
Michael Corcoran, Gregg Coombes join Oxford on loan.

While Chris Barker extended his loan period at Colchester and Jeff Whitley was told to find a new club but is currently still with Cardiff.

So Dave Jones opted to bring in 4 new players on permanent deals and bolster the squad with 3 loans in key positions. There has been no additions to the back-line despite Jones claiming to want a full-back, but another loan window is due to open 8th February so perhaps he is biding his time until the right player becomes available. Another centre-back could be a priority with Darren Purse`s prolonged back injury sidelining the captain for 6 weeks and leaving the back-line looking weak.

7 new signings for Cardiff, 5 of which are immediately ready for first team action. Jason Byrne and Peter Whittingham have both enjoyed solid starts to their Cardiff City careers. The outgoing players see Kamara and Glombard (with first team experience) leave and several highly rated youngster loaned to gain valuable first team experience.

Onwards and hopefully upwards then for Cardiff City as they continue to push for an unlikely but lucrative promotion, Championship rivals would be foolish to write us off and we now possess a quad capable of challenging for honours and covering most absences.

Yes its good news that we are bringing in new players but when you get rid of a perfectly good player like Malvin Kamara who when played caused defences trouble down the wing and also set up a lot of goals, it makes you wonder if these players who are coming in are coming in as theres no money and the wage is cheaper.
