A win is a win, and Cardiff City fans would take anything like a victory at present. Thats 6 points gained now in two games, whereas we recently went 13 games without a win and the previous 9 games yielded 6 points in draws.
The first half City played well and showed some good touches but the withdrawal of Scimeca was a massive blow. Kevin McNaughton came on and played in an unfamiliar midfield role when Ledley and Flood have more experience in that position.
From 3-0 up, City should have been cruising but Leicester got a goal at the vital time to keep the game alive. The dodgy zonal marking was at the centre again and once again the opposition scored from a corner. Rather than marking his man, Roger Johnson was forced to stay back meaning his was a standing jump and Kisnorbo was waiting to finish. It's been a long time since Purse / Loovens did that for our corners and Johnson is still waiting for his first City goal.
An immensely satisfying result, but it could have been so differnt. McCauley and Hughes both missed great chances for Leicester and Cardiff looked vulnerable at the back on numerous occasions. They were missing the captain but as a back 4, you'd expect Gilbert, Loovens, Johnson, Ledley to be better organised. One thing they are not short on is pace, and that saved them on several occasions.
The game was won by the brilliance of Chopra. The free-kick sublime, the cheeky chip inspired and the coolness and assured finish to beat a defender twice before driving home was particularly impressive.
3 points is 3 points, and City did enough to deserve them, we can still expect better performances but at least we're back in the hunt and scoring again!
