Tottenham Hotspur have several injury doubts for their FA Cup 3rd round replay tie with Cardiff City.
Captain Ledley King is out with a foot injury that has seen him sidelined since Christmas while Spurs have not won a game in his absence. Egyptian striker Mido (hamstring), Jermaine Jenas (ankle)and the versatile Paul Stalteri (hip) are all just returning to training and the game comes too soon for any of them to return.
Good news for Spurs is the likely inclusion of Aaron Lennon, the winger returned from the substitutes bench in the inital game versus Cardiff and made his full return unscathed in the disappointing 3-2 loss versus Newcastle United in the Premiership.
Lennon is the player most likely to hurt Cardiff, and his pace and trickery could be the key to unlocking the stubborn Bluebirds defence. Robbie Keane (cousin of new Cardiff recruit Jason Byrne) will vye with Dimitar Berbatov and Jermaine Defoe for the attacking positions.
Cardiff City have few options to rotate their squad at present and have this week released winger Malvin Kamara to Port Vale. The recent acquisitions to bolster the ranks (Peter Whittingham, Jason Byrne and James Simmonds) are all ineligible as they were not registered to Cardiff City at the time of the initial 3rd round tie.
Paul Parry is still struggling with a groin injury meaning that Willo Flood keeps his place. Steve Thompson will resume in attack after returning from suspension while Kevin Campbell is expected to be fit after suffering a cut head against Southend.
Cardiff (probable):
Alexander, Gilbert, McNaughton, Loovens, Purse, Ledley, Flood, McPhail, Scimeca, Thompson, Chopra.
Subs: Forde, Johnson, Campbell, Glombard and Cooper/Blake.
Pretty much as you were for Cardiff then as Thompson returns and on-loan Arsenal youngster Kerrea Gilbert makes the trip into 'enemy territory' at White Hart Lane.
Cardiff City have a chance, Tottenham are clear favourites for the replay, but a chance is all we need and the travelling Cardiff support will no doubt do us proud again. Southend - here we come!!
