Cardiff's striker dilemma

Cardiff City striker Steven Thompson will miss the visit of bottom Champsionship side Southend United this weekend.

The Scottish international picked up his fifth booking of the season in the 0-0 draw with Luton Town after clashing with Town defender Leon Barnett. Both men tangled and ended up on the ground but each escaped with a yellow card and each will miss their side's next game.

Thompson has looked fired up recently after a well-taken Boxing Day brace against Ipswich. His partnership with Michael Chopra is important for Cardiff and Thompson's presence will surely be missed.

Kevin Campbell is the likely candidate to step in for Thompson unless a replacement striker is signed and registered in time.
Other alternatives would be the returning Paul Parry, Luigi Glombard or Andrea Feretti but Jones does not favour playing with 2 pacy forwards together.

Thompson will return to the squad for the visit to Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup 3rd round replay the following week.
