Cardiff: Defense pro's, attack woes

Cardiff: Defense pro's, attack woes

Cardiff City's form has dipped considerably in the last couple of months and their formerly-prolific scoring has dried up worryingly.

Despite City's slip down to 8th place, only Birmingham and Stoke City have better defensive records in terms of goals conceded whilst it is Stoke and Cardiff City who lead the way in terms of clean sheets with 12 apiece.

The good defensive record for Cardiff, despite recent heavy defeats to Hull City (4-1) and Stoke City (3-0), points to a distinct weakness in Cardiff's attacking play as the reason for their poor league position now.

6 draws from the last 7 games, 4 of those being goalless reveals a distinct lack of firepower up front whilst you have to go back 12 games in all competitions for the last goal from a City midfield player, Riccy Scimeca's winner to beat Burnley.

Cardiff are looking at bringing in at least one striker during the transfer window to put serious pressure on Steve Thompson and Michael Chopra. If Cardiff can turn the draws into wins, they will be a good prospect for promotion, if not, then they could end up closer to the relegation zone.

Rowan Vine, Luke Varney, Matt Green (Newport County) and Geoff Horsfield are some of those being linked to solve City's poor goalscoring form.
