'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Cardiff City's Number 1

Neil Alexander is reportedly ready to put pen to paper on a new Cardiff City deal following weeks of speculation regarding his future. Alexander rejected a contract offered to him by City boss Dave Jones last month, and the free transfer of Irish goalkeeper David Forde from Derry City put Alexander`s position under jeopardy.

The 28 year old has negotiated terms on a 2-year extension, and whilst there are some issues left to be resolved, both side are positive about the deal.

'I'm hopeful of signing a new contract this week, but it's still not certain." Revealed Alexander.

'I very much hope it happens because I'm desperate to stay at Cardiff.'

Whilst the form of others around his has crumbled, Alexander has stayed in excellent form himself and has been the most consistent Cardiff player all season pulling off some top quality saves and looking a transformed figure from the nervous, indecisive keeper who joined from Livingstone in 1998.

Coventry City are long term admirers of the Scotman, whilst Norwich were showing interest pre-season but Alexander has retained and deserved the Number 1 jersey and new recruit David Forde will have to wait until a form dip, injury or suspension to Alexander gives him his chance.

The retention of Alexander may singal a loan or permanent move for ex-Arsenal trainee Mark Howard while Martyn Margetson can focus on his role as goalkeeping coach and 3rd choice 'keeper.
