Cardiff miss out on Ipswich star

Cardiff Citty have failed in a bid to lure Gary Roberts to Ninian Park. The winger has been on loan with Ipswich Town who made a bid to secure his permanent transfer from Accrington Stanley.

Dave Jones contacted Stanley with an 11th hour bid and Jones is on good terms with Accrington boss Jono Coleman (youngsters Joe Jacobson and Curtis McDonald are on loan there from City). The Bluebirds matched the £200k bid made by Ipswich but were to late to disuade Roberts from signing for the Portman Road outfit.

The 22 year old impressed during his loan spell with Ipswich and was in good form when the Tractor Boys visited Ninian Park in early December. Roberts has 2 Championship goals to his name and has now joined on a permanent contract until 2010.

Dave Jones will now move onto other targets to bolster his thin squad as they prepare to turn form into wins and climb back into the play-off positions.
