Gunter preferred to Wright ?

Cardiff's teenage defender Chris Gunter was recalled to the starting XI against Ipswich this weekend after a Vitalfootball poll revealed that 63% of supporters wanted to see Gunter starting compared to 12% who preferred on-loan veteran Alan Wright.

Gunter made his league debut earlier this season against QPR and made a good impression, Cardiff's lack of squad depth handed him a chance and he has repaid his manager's faith with 2 solid and energetic performances.

Kevin McNaughton is the only experienced full-back on Cardiff City's books with on-loan Alan Wright from Sheffield brought in as emergency cover. Gunter made way for Wright by dropping to the bench but after injury to Paul Parry and suspension to Stephen McPhail, McNaughton switched to midfield (ahead of experienced Kevin Cooper)with Wright and the 17 year old Gunter at fullbacks.

All three had reasonable games and Gunter looks set to retain his place for the trip to Hull City next weekend after some strong running, good clearances and a desperately unfortunate penalty decision against him.
