No Marshall Complaints For Slade

No Marshall Complaints For Slade

Manager Russell Slade has said he can have no complaints about the red card shown to goalkeeper David Marshall in the loss to Rotherham yesterday.

Video - Rotherham Highlights

In quotes carried Wales Online from Slade's post game press interviews, the gaffer admitted that the stopper deserved to see red for his kick out and that he'd been quick to apologise to his colleagues in the dressing room for his moment of madness.

'I`ve watched the incident on video and it clearly should have been a Cardiff free-kick because their player pulled Marshall. Yes, Marshall lashed out. It is a sending off, but not a penalty. We should have been down to 10 men, but should not have been a goal down.'

Slade went on to say that it was always going to be an 'incredibly difficult' proposition to get something from the game once we were down to ten men, and for Marshall himself he knows he'll have 'regretted' it and whilst it's out of character for him given his 'professional' manner, he knows players do see the 'red mist' at times and clearly that's what he did.

'Knowing the man he will have apologised to his team-mates. Marshall gave the referee no choice. I totally accept that.'

The gaffer went on to say that speaking to the referee he claimed he didn't see the pull at Marshall and he found that 'staggering' really.

'It`s a free-kick. We all know the rules, but the referee missed it completely. How can he not see it? There are also linesmen and a fourth official. They should work as a team.'

As for the game and the performance of the side itself, he went on to say that he thought we played reasonably well, especially at ten men.

'Overall I felt the 10 players did enough as a group to earn a point. We made sacrifices to try and earn the draw, but it was a difficult afternoon to go down to 10 men. We reduced Rotherham to very little and I thought they had run out of ideas. They hit a post and had a header, but little else. We have suffered two defeats in a week and that`s how hard football can be. Now we focus on our next game and that`s at home to Charlton.'

As for the penalty shout we had in the game for the foul on Fabio he described it as being 'a clear trip' in his eyes, so at least the referee got that one right.

Marshall will now miss the Charlton, Brighton and Preston matches as he serves a three game suspension.
