McPhail dismissal upheld by FAW

The appeal against Stephen McPhail's red card for violent conduct has been turned down by the FAW following a review on Thursday.

McPhail was red-carded during the 3-0 loss away at Stoke following a clash with Lee Hendrie of Stoke in which Hendrie was accused of play-acting by Cardiff boss Dave Jones.

With Cardiff's small squad already stretched to breaking point, the ban could not have come at a worse time in the middle of a mini-slump in Cardiff results.

McPhail has picked up a three match ban and will miss the matches against Colchester this Saturday as well as Ipswich (H) on the 9th and Hull (A) on the 16th of December.

McPhail almost had a suspension earlier this match before the ruling was overturned and Willo Flood was readied to step in. Flood has been out injured with a thigh strain recently and may not be available this weekend. Joe Ledley will most likely switch to central midfield with Paul Parry and Malvin Kamara on the flanks. Nick McKoy or Darcy Blake could also come into contention.

McPhail's excellent awareness and crisp passing has been a crucial feature in Cardiff's rise to the top and his added creativity will be missed as City seek to re-discover their scoring touch.
