'If It's Football, It's Vital'

What a difference a Ray makes!

The distinct lack of squad depth was all to obvious as Dave Jones waited until the 80th minute to make a subsitution in what he openly described as 'the worst performance this season'.

With Steve Thompson haveing just returned early from an Achilles operation, in most sides - he would start from the bench and come on to perhaps make a difference. Cardiff however do not have that luxury and Thompson off the pace is just as effective as the veteran Kevin Campbell - there simply were too few options.

Malvin Kamara did come on, but barely had a touch of the ball in his 10 minute appearance. Willo Flood may have played a part but for a thigh strain but what was needed was a youthful, confident option to give it everything and make a difference. Ipswich had it with young Danny Haynes with a late brace to beat rivals Norwich on Sunday.

In Ray Jones, QPR found their saviour. A young striker raised through the Loftus Road academy in his first season. He was playing well and had scored 2 goals for QPR but was returning from injury against Cardiff and had to settle for a place on the bench. Jones came on and found himself on hand to slot home the winner to give QPR the win.

The onus was on Cardiff to break the visitors stubborn defence down but they just didnt have the options to change things so QPR found their winner. A valuable lesson and the end of the unbeaten home run. Manager Dave Jones is working flat out to bring in new faces and give the squad the lift it needs to hold onto the top spot.
