Gunter set for Cardiff bow?

Chris Gunter could be set for his first league start for Cardiff City when they take on Queens Park Rangers tomorrow. Gunter is a Wales U21 international and is very highly rated at Ninian Park. He was recently given a professional contract by manager Dave Jones before scheduled at the end of the season in recognition of his determination and progress.

He made his senior Cardiff bow earlier this season in the 2-0 Carling Cup defeat to Barnet and was one of few players to come out of the match with any credit.

Kerrea Gilbert`s shoulder injury, and James Chambers` return to Watford has left City short of full-backs with only Kevin McNaughton available with first team experience. That would mean either Joe Ledley playing out of position at left back or giving a chance to one of the City youngsters. Joe Jacobson is another with good potential but the young left back yesterday moved out on loan to Torquay leaving Gunter or the versatile Darcy Blake as options.

Dave Jones admitted he was searching for a loan player to bring in, but Jones would never bring in a loan signing unless the player was better than other options and had something extra to add. He added that he would have no problem in throwing Gunter in:

"It's a question of finding somebody else on loan or throwing in Chris Gunter and I would have no hesitation in playing the young kid if I have to."
