Cardiff fans banned from Molineux

Cardiff fans banned from Molineux

The Chairman of The Football League has contacted Cardiff City regarding a ban on all Bluebirds supporters from attending the forthcoming match at Molineux on 20th January 2007. An official club statement revealed that Cardiff City FC was given no warning of the ban and is not in consultation with South Wales police and the club Safety Advisory Group as well as the Football League in order to overturn the decision.

The decision comes on the back of trouble at the last Wolves vs Cardiff game on 11th March this year when alcohol was mistakenly served from a refreshment area and then withdrawn and the shutters closed in the away section. A small group of Cardiff fans caused a disturbance but everything was calm until the West Midlands Police force arrived, late and appeared heavy-handed to escalate the trouble far beyond necessary.

A hearing regarding the incidents at Molineux is planned by the Football Association Wales.

Any implications of the ban which will increase safety and reduce trouble is obviously the right move but this decision appears unfair and Peter Risdsale will be campaigning the Cardiff City cause strongly. It seems however that Cardiff fans will be denied the chance to visit one of the most impressive stadiums in the division and one of the away games requiring the least travelling to attend.

I realise there was issues last year..was it not the wolves stadium that caused this in the first place and the police followed up to make it greater...seems a very unfair decision and delivered in an unfair manner....
