Cardiff 3-2 TSV 1860 Munich

Cardiff 3-2 TSV 1860 Munich

There was a surprise winning goal scorer in our first game in Austria today when we took on German League 2 side TSV 1860 Munich.

The score was stuck at two all at the SVK Stadium when manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to substitute new signing Federico Macheda and bring on the long forgotten Etien Velikonja, and two minutes from time he fired home the winner.

Cardiff went ahead twice in the match before Munich hit back on each occasion and we entered the half time break with the scores tired.

Macheda was impressive in the first half and scored our opener after 23 minutes having been set up by Peter Whittingham. In the heat after our opener both teams had an organised drinks break, and when action restarted they came out of the blocks quicker and got on level terms in the 28 minute.

Whittingham himself got in on the act then and fired into the lead on 30 minutes from a free kick, but seven minutes later they again rallied and tied the score at two all.

Our opponents also hit the post in the first period, and Macheda had a goal disallowed for offside.

The second period was much the same, but with City tiring after their efforts in training, Munich did start to get the upper hand and had an effort ruled out themselves.

That left Velikonja to take the headlines when he arrived as a substitute as he bagged the winner.

Cardiff:

Lewis, Kiss, John, Eikrem, Hudson, Cala, Whittingham, Mason (Jones 83), Macheda (Velikonja 76), Daehli, Maynard (Bo Kyung 68).

TSV:

Kiraly, Steinhofer, Schindler, Stark (Bulow 48), Wittek, Sanchez, Weigl, Bedia (Adlung 69), Tomasov (Claasen 63), Okotie, Wood.
