'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ole Demands Home Victory

For Ole Gunnar Solskjaer there can only be one winner this weekend when the Tigers challenge the Bluebirds on their home patch.

Cardiff are five points behind Steve Bruce's Hull City, and they also have the distraction of an FA Cup replay on Monday against Brighton, so it's a situation we need to take advantage of and ensure we take all three points on the day and should other results go our way, a win could see us bounce out of the relegation zone although it would be by the narrowest of margins.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game Ole admitted a victory was absolutely vital for us, because we need to close that gap and get ourselves in amongst the teams towards the top of the relegation battle, rather than where we are near the bottom.

With the way the season is playing out, survival could well come down to a single point or two ultimately and if we can get our noses an inch in front of at least three other teams it gives us something to hold onto and protect as we head towards May.

'The boys know the importance of the game. I think this was the best training week we've had with the conditions since I've been here and in terms of quality with the players we've had available. We've had good results in our last two home games against Norwich and Aston Villa and if we can pick up a win on Saturday, you're really looking forward to your next set of games with confidence and belief that you can do well.'

Home form could well now be key for us as well and the team have to make the most of the fans being behind them in numbers and noise, and Ole says the players do feel comfortable on home soil because of that but we simply have to turn the draws we have picked up into wins and the fear is we could be looking back at games like Villa thinking what if.

Three points this weekend could help allay that.

Midfielder Gary Medel is missing with his thigh injury, and as covered earlier Mark Hudson will now miss the remainder of the campaign after picking up a serious hamstring problem.

Jordan Mutch should've returned to training today, and Peter Whittingham returned yesterday ahead of the game, but it remains to be seen if either start from the bench.
