Cardiff stadium 'ready in 2008'

New Cardiff City Chairman Peter Ridsdale today announced that Cardiff's new 30000 all seater stadium, to be developed at the Leckwith site along with a retail park, will be ready in December 2008.

Laing O'Rourke was confirmed to have been awarded the tender for the £35 million project. O'Rourke was responsible for the new grandstand at Ascot racecourse as well at the City of Manchester Stadium and the Ricoh Arena, home of Coventry City.

This positive news indicated the club's continuing determination to secure a new stadium and building on-site may begin within a matter on months. The saga has been going on for years now but progress is now being made and Ridsdale sees the project as an opportunity to rebuild his tarnished reputation and will strive to ensure the new stadium is a success. Following Sam Hammam's separture and the exchange of loan-notes for share equity - Cardiff City council is expected to be more receptive and the deals can be concluded shortly.
