'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Off Pitch Issues Won't Affect The Squad

Manager Malky Mackay has said that just like last time Cardiff hit the headlines for the wrong reasons, the players will remain professional and not let it affect them.

In quotes carried by The Mirror the manager said repeated his comments in terms of the fact that he wouldn't be resigning due to off pitch issues because he has a job to do at the club and that doesn't change just because the piggy bank may have been locked away in a safe for January. He's passionate about finishing that job and that's all he's focused on.

As for the players though and questions as to whether or not the January blow up would affect the focus of the players as we head into the Liverpool game firstly, and then our subsequent matches, he explained that he'd had a chat with the players a few months ago when other issues raised themselves in a public manner, and he sat them down and asked them flat out if they had any questions that they wanted him to address in light of the publicity.

'There wasn't too many, but we spoke openly. Then I said, 'Right, get your professional heads on and get back to what you do really well, which is come in every day and work really hard. Things like that - leave to me.''

Sounds the perfect way of managing it really, players are there to do a job on the pitch and work hard in training and off pitch activities shouldn't be allowed to get in the way - whatever those off pitch issues may be - and whether or not he has another chat with the players will probably remain behind closed doors.

What matters is the next game, and that's where their focus should be.

Agree, what matter is the next game and I'd hope the players are professional enough to make that the focus, which they should be able to do.
