Manager Malky Mackay has said he felt that Cardiff were worthy winners of all three points in this weekends game against West Bromwich Albion.
Cardiff broke the deadlock in the second half thanks to a goal from Peter Whittingham, and we recorded our sixth clean sheet of the season which was another source of pleasure for the gaffer.
Speaking to the Official Site following the one nil victory, Mackay said.
'I thought we started really well, putting West Brom on the back foot right away. We played in their half and it game us momentum.'
Mackay goes on to say that come half time he knew we'd have to be patient and he thought the players dealt well with that because there was a belief that we could keep grinding them down and if we kept doing the right things something would break for us, and ultimately that's exactly what happened.
'It's another clean sheet, another win and it's against a team that's around us in the division. It was great for the fans too, they were immense again.'
Mackay goes on to say that given that Albion have achieved what we hope to, which is solidifying ourselves as a Premiership team, capable of pushing up the table as they achieved last season, he feels we can take a lot of heart from how we competed with them because they are good side and he points to their game against Aston Villa as proof of what they can do, but we kept them quiet and forced them to play our game, so for him the win was more than justified and again lends hope to what the overall aims of the club are in this division.
Obviously Malky picked out the goal scorer for special praise on the day, saying that Whittingham has been one of the most consistent performers for him, this season especially, and he'd delighted that he's getting his rewards on the pitch owing to his levels and efforts for the team.
Nice little gap building between us and those below us now. Have to keep striving for that and push on as far as we can.
