Cardiff City Cooling Interest In Wanyama
Cardiff City are reported to be turning their attentions away from lon-time transfer target Victor Wanyama after Celtic turned down a second bid for the midfielder. Southampton were prepared to pay more for Wanyama and met Celtic's valuation but could not agree personal terms. Cardiff City are reluctant tpo meet the up-front valuation of nearly £12m - but are confident that the package is consistent with the player and agent demands.
Wanyama's future at Celtic looks uncertain, with Celtic publicly unhappy about claims made by his agent. There has been considerable interest in recent weeks but only the relatively unglamorous Premiership clubs abovve have been linked with formal bids.
It seems almost certain that Celtic are attempting to play both clubs against each other but with the Bluebirds only offereing marginally improved terms for the deal - the Bhoys are trying to revive Southampton's interest but are also maintaining they would be happy to keep the player.
Malky Mackay's track record in this area is exemplary. His deals are well thought out , prepared and executed very well. He will have a number of alternative targets though the saga thus far suggests the Wanyama is a top target and he may yet submit another bid if other targets also prove difficult to land. You can question the £1m signing of Velikonja perhaps, but the deals for the likes of Mason, Kim, Fraizer Campbell etc all seem like excellent business. Hopefully we can add Andrea Cornelius to that list in future...
