International Call-Up For Rudy Gestede

Cardiff City's goal-hero from Tuesday night has been called-up to the Benin National squad having opted to pledge his International future to the African Nation. Gestede is eligible to play for France, but had always previously stated his ambition to play for the USA. However, he has now opted for 'The Squirrells' and will joing up with his countrymen for the upcoming game against Algeria.

Rudy has not featured heavily this season, but has made a decent impression when coming on as a substitute, preferred to players like Mason and Helguson at times and he certainly causes problems for opposition defenders. Gestede bagged a crucial point for City against Leicester when his excellent downward header left Kasper Schmeichel stranded deep in injury time. We'll never know the full significance of that goal but clearly it was a huge moment in our season.

Congratulations to Rudy on his call-up, and best of luck with his exploits for the Benin National side.
