Campbell Deal Still Imminent But Still Not Done!
Cardiff City remain on the verge of clinching the signing of Sunderland striker Frazier Campbell but a formal announcement has yet to be made and as of Friday morning he is not yet a Bluebirds player suggesting he may not be registered in time to feature against Blackpool tomorrow evening.
Campbell`s high wages were always likely to be a stumbling block and though Cardiff City were prepared to pay heavily for the former Manchester United man`s signature, the negotiations with Sunderland have been difficult as City want to push the transfer fee down. All three parties are close to agreeing the switch - which will free space for Martin O`Neill to bring in extra firepower himself.
Media sources all report the deal is a formality, although Hull City remained keen on their former loan player and could yet be making moves to scupper the deal. Malky Mackay has been keen to add another striker to his squad with Bellamy, Helguson, Gestede and Mason the current options in attack. Nicky Maynard will not feature again this season while Etien Velikonja has yet to make a league appearance for City.
Hopefully the deal for Campbell can be wrapped up, and the striker registered to at least feature on the bench vs Blackpool. The key for Malky Mackay is to include him on the trip to Dubai next week which will provide an excellent opportunity for squad integration - if the signing can be completed.
