Loovens red card upheld

Glenn Loovens' red card against Preston has been upheld after his appeal to the FAW was turned down. Loovens will now miss tonight's game away at Plymouth with Darren Purse returning from his 3 match suspension to partner Roger Johnson in defence.

Loovens was dismissed after 9 minutes, his first red card in this country, after tussling with Preston's Dave Nugent. The two were shoulder-to-shoulder but Nugent went down and Loovens was the last man. The referee intimated that had the challenge occurred anywhere else on the field, no yellow card would have been produced.

The stright red card was issued for a professional foul so Loovens will now serve a 1 match ban, as opposed to violent conduct (3 match ban).
