Cardiff City have entered the loan market to bring Norwich City's left-sided midfielder/defender to act as cover for the badly beleaguered backline which lost Ben Turner and Andrew Taylor over the weekend. With McNaughton already out, we have no specialist full-backs - though Connolly has proven a solid option on the right.
Lappin joins on an initial 6 week loan, taking him through the Christmas period. All the indications are that we will have all our regular defenders back well before then but he will still be useful cover as well as providing versatility.
The 29 year old Scotsman has not featured at all in the Premiership for Norwich City this season, and boss Chris Hughton was happy for him to get some playing time with the Bluebirds. His lack of opportunities this year follows another frustrating campaign last season making just a handful of appearances in the Premiership though he did start back-to-back games as the Canaries drew with Arsenal and beat Aston Villa in aa strong end to the campaign.
Lappin joins up with City immediately and should prove a decent acquisition. Although primarily a midfielder, he is known to be a decent enough left-back but will have little time to get to know Kim Bo Kyung before Saturday's trip. Andrew Taylor can regularly be heard barking (repeated!) instructions at his South Korean team-mate but hopefully Lappin's experience and Championship pedigree will help him settle quickly.
